2009 NBA Mock Draft: Picks 5-6

Our mock draft rolls on with the latter half of the Top 10, where many of the prospects are graded very equally and it comes down to either what teams need or who they like for a particular reason. The consensus picks in this year's draft really end after pick No. 1, but we think our next two have a good chance of being plucked at five and six.

And so, let us continue our 2009 NBA Lottery Mock Draft with the Washington Wizards on the clock (for now).

5. Wizards: Jordan Hill, PF, Arizona

There is a lot of talk about the Wizards trading this pick, possibly for another proven veteran, but many of the teams they are presumably talking to are also interested in Hill. Despite our saying that this was more of a guard heavy draft, Hill becomes the third big man taken in the top five picks. With the lack of quality big men available later, it makes sense. Hill made some great strides at Arizona this season with averages of 18 points and 11 boards per contest, and his 6-10 size is ideal for a power forward in the NBA. While he has a lot of potential, particularly at the defensive end of the court, his offensive skill set is questionable at this point. Still, he's talented enough to warrant this pick--regardless of which team eventually owns the selection.

6. Timberwolves: Tyreke Evans, G, Memphis

Stop us if you've heard this before: a Memphis guard with the ability to create his own shot, pass the ball effectively, use his quickness to force turnovers on the defensive end, and bring a game changing ability to the NBA. Evans is a very intriguing young guard for all of the above reasons, and the Timberwolves are certainly doing their homework on him. He needs to improve his shot from long range, but many of his shots are in transition as he makes offense out of sound defense. There are some flaws in his game, but there is enough talent and, as NBA draft experts love to say, upside to overcome his weaknesses.

That's it for this edition of our 2009 NBA Mock Draft. Check out the previous entries in the upper right hand column of this page and stay tuned for more throughout the weekend.

Betting on the NBA Draft

The NBA Draft is tomorrow, which means you can finally bet on something other than baseball! If you have the chance, take any of these bets, because this is how tomorrow's NBA Draft order will go.

1. Chicago Bulls- Derrick Rose
There's no way the Bulls pass on the Memphis point guard.

2. Miami Heat- Michael Beasley
Despite rumors that the Heat might take Mayo, Beasley has too much value to pass on.

3. Minnesota Timberwolves- O.J. Mayo
The Timberwolves will gladly scoop up whatever the Heat pass on.

4. Seattle SuperSonics- Jerryd Bayless
Seattle's been enamored with Bayless for months.

5. Memphis Grizzlies- Kevin Love
The Grizzlies, like the rest of the NBA, are truely in Love with this kid.

As the draft nears, these odds might get worse and worse, so act now! As we type, the odds on Rose to Chicago are already down to -600.

2-0 Night to End the Tournament Action

The Kansas Jayhawks are your national champions, and you heard it here first. We correctly predicted that Kansas would cover the +2 spread and the game would go under 148 points. Well, Kansas won 75-68, and even with overtime, the two teams scored just 143 points.

The 2-0 national championship game gives us a record of 12-4 in the NCAA Tournament since the Sweet 16, when we started betting 2 units per. We didn't hit 75% all year, but were glad to go out with a bang.

As happy as we are with our night, it's sad that we will no longer be able to bet on college basketball for a few months.

Still, Congrats to Kansas on the win (especially Mario Chalmbers, who hit a clutch three over Derrick Rose with two seconds left to push the game into overtime).

Stay with us tomorrow, as we get back to our NBA Free Picks!

National Championship Picks

It's all come down to this. The field of 65 is now the field of just two. Who will cut down the nets? Kansas or Memphis? Our system (and our gut) tells us it will be Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks. Here are our picks:

Kansas +2 over Memphis

Kansas/Memphis UNDER 148

We are10-4 in the tournament since the Sweet 16, which is over 71%, and we're looking to add a couple of victories to that record in the tournament's final game.

Good luck!

Memphis Wins

Memphis beat UCLA in the Final Four matchup Saturday, but since North Carolina was unable to come from behind against Kansas, we went just 1-1 in the Tournament action.

We are looking at some possible plays tomorrow, but we can asure you that there will be a play for the NCAA Tournament Final on Monday.

Memphis Covers!

Memphis handled Texas without much of a problem, unfortunately Kansas couldn't cover against Davidson, giving us a 1-1 day in NCAA Basketball. Still, since the Sweet 16 we are 9-3, which is 75%.

We've updated our bracket to help you place your bets for the Final Four on Saturday. We like a one-seed to win it all.

Two Elite Eight Picks Today

Here are our picks today:

Memphis -3 over Texas

Kansas -9 over Davidson

Good luck!

Another 3-1 Day in NCAA Basketball

Kansas, Texas, and Memphis all won and covered, giving us back-to-back 3-1 days in the NCAA Tournament. We'll do the math for you quickly, and figure that we went 6-2 in the Sweet 16, which is 75%. As is usually the case, it looks like our Free NCAA Basketball picks are hot just in time for March Madness.

Another Big Game Tonight

We're told there's some other big game in college basketball today that we should bet on, and we will do just that. In the big Memphis vs. Tennessee match-up, we like it to go Over 156.

The number one and two teams in the nation both have prolific offenses, so there should be no shortage of scoring tonight.

Additionally, Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl (seen above) used to be the coach at UW-Milwaukee, who we like to cover the spread against Bradley in a Bracket Buster tonight. Is that a coincidence or another sign of two easy winners from Stock Lemon? I guess we'll see.

Good luck again.
