Shaq Finds Out He's Traded Through Twitter

ESPN is reporting that Shaquille O'Neal has been traded from the Suns to the Cavs in exchange for Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic, which, of course, is news to Shaq.

Apparently, Shaq first heard about the ordeal through some twitter friends of his. Click the picture to enlarge the twitter chat log that took place.

2009 NBA Mock Draft: Picks 13-14

This is it, folks. Our final installment of the first annual 2009 NBA Mock Draft here at Stock Lemon is here. We've gone through the first twelve picks in the lottery in the last few days, and you can see all of those picks in the upper right hand corner of this site.

Now, it's time to finish mocking the lottery.

13. Pacers: Brandon Jennings, PG, Pallacanestro Virtus Roma

These may be the last two picks in our mock draft, but they could end up being two of the best. Brandon Jennings might be gobbled up as early as nine picks before the Pacers, but then again, he might not be. If he is available at 13, this is a best case scenario for Indiana. Jennings has loads of potential and could be one of the most dynamic point guards for in the game for years to come. First, though, he must develop a consistent jumper and show that he can lead a team and buy in to what works in the NBA. The point guard who left to play in Italy after high school will have to prove that he is mature enough to play in the league. For some, he might be too risky, but for the Pacers at 13, he would be an enormous steal.

14. Suns: Ty Lawson, PG, North Carolina

The Pacers took the flashy point guard, but the Suns will happily grab the safe point guard. Lawson plays excellent defense and is one of the quicker guards in the draft, so even if it's just off the bench for a while, the Suns will be glad to have him. Phoenix will eventually look for Lawson, who took North Carolina all the way, to bring that winning way to the desert and lead the Suns back into the playoffs and out of our lottery mock drafts.

That concludes our 2009 NBA Mock Draft. Again, the rest of the lottery can be found in the upper right hand corner here at Stock Lemon. Be sure to return for more coverage of the 2009 NBA Draft, as we'll likely take a look at some prop bets and have some more information for you on Thursday.

Free NBA Picks Hitting 71% in 2009!

You read that title right--we are continuing to brag about our success in the limited NBA bets we've made this calendar year, ignoring our 2008 struggles.

Our Free NBA Picks are 5-2 (71%) in 2009, and we hope to continue that success with an over/under tonight.

Oklahoma City Thunder/Phoenix Suns UNDER 234

Good luck!

Free NBA Picks Off to a Good Start in 2009

Last season, our Free NBA Picks were 40-20 (67%), as we make sure to brag about every so often.

To start this season, well, let's just say they weren't hitting 67%.

After our early struggles, we decided to take a break in order to increase the sample size from which we pool our statistical data. And, by golly, it might have worked.

The Celtics covered the -8 spread with a 104-87 win over the Suns, improving our Free NBA Picks to 3-1 on the calendar year.

Keep checking back for more of our Free NBA Picks, which we can now boast about being 75% this year, leaving out the part about only playing four games thus far.

Celtics Are the Free NBA Pick Tonight

We have on Free NBA Pick today, and if you haven't guessed who it is based on the title of this post, then we don't know what to tell you.

Celtics -8 over Suns

Our Free NBA Picks are looking to regain the promise they showed last year, when they went 40-20 (67%). In 2009, the picks are 2-1 (67%!).

Good luck!

Forecast Says Suns With No Chance For Thunder

We have one wather-related Free NBA Pick today, and the forecast calls for the Suns to shine in Oklahoma tonight.

With a zero percent chance of Thunder.

If you haven't guessed by now, here's the pick.

Suns -10 over Thunder

There isn't much more to say about this one, although as a side note, this is our first ever pick involving the Oklahoma City Thunder!

Good luck.

Knicks Over the Spurs... Seriously

It's not often that you see us betting on the Knicks or against the Spurs, but tonight we're doing both in the same game.

New York Knicks +4 1/2 over the San Antonio Spurs

Without Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker, the Spurs will struggle as they have all season--even at home. They really shouldn't even be favored for tonight's contest.

The Spurs knocked Mike D'Antoni's Suns out of the playoffs last year, so there's a little bit of personal grudge factor going on. With D'Antoni getting the Knicks to play a fast-paced game, the Knicks look good early, thriving in the new coach's system.

Speaking of systems, our Free NBA Picks aren't off to the best start after a great year last year, but that should change tonight.

Good luck!

Suns and Warriors Under Today

The NBA regular season is winding down, but there are still some games left and one of them fits our system tonight.

Phoenix Suns/Golden State Warriors UNDER 231

Our Free NBA Pick system indicates that, although these teams can put up the points, this over/under is set a little too high.

As you see from Lemmy's Resume on the right column of this page, our Free NBA Picks are 38-19, which is 66% on the year. They are also on a four game winning streak, and this under is a good bet to make it five straight!

Good luck!

Lakers and Suns Cover for 2-0 Day

Another day, another winner. Wait... make that two winners.

In our first Free NBA Pick, the Lakers fought back from a double-digit deficit against the Kings, using a 36-18 fourth quarter to put Sacramento in their place. Kobe Bryant scored 17 points in the deciding quarter, leading the Lakers to a 117-105 victory and covering the six point spread.

Then, about 20 minutes prior to tip-off, we added a Bonus Free NBA Pick, which ended up being a reward for the readers who check us out most often. We try to get these picks in as early as possible, but there was a lot of analysis to be done before we could determine the Suns a Free NBA Pick, and we posted it as soon as we could.

The Suns got on the Blazers early, leading 60-41 at the half, and although they let Portland get back in it, they still pulled out a 97-92 win to cover the two point spread.

When all was said and done, we ended up with a 2-0 day. Our Free NBA Picks remain insanely hot, hitting 10 of the last 11. Overall, they are now 24-10, which is roughly 71%.

We hope you were riding these picks with us today, but if you weren't, fear not, we'll have more free picks in the coming days. Get them while they're hot!

Bonus Free NBA Pick

After further research, we are adding a bonus Free NBA Pick. We rarely have more than one play, but we like the value of this pick.

Phoenix Suns -2 over the Portland Trailblazers

in addition to our previous pick

Los Angeles Lakers -6 over the Sacramento Kings

The Shaquille O'Neal trade the Suns made earlier this year will finally begin to look like a great decision tonight, as will betting on the Suns. We like both of these faves, so good luck and enjoy the rare two play night.

Fun with Super Bowl Prop Bets

American Idol's Jordin Sparks will be singing the National Anthem at Super Bowll XLII in her native Glendale, Arizona on February 3rd, and of course, Bodog allows you to bet the over/under on the length of her Star Spangled Banner.

The over/under is set at 1 minute and 42 seconds, and we're taking the under, although it was a close call.
Last year, when Billy Joel drunk drove his way to Miami to sing the Anthem at Super Bowl XLI, a simple youtube sampling of his previous anthems revealed that he usually took about 10 seconds less to sing it than Bodog had anticipated. When the big game came, he took the mike and sure enough, was under by far. Easy money.

This year was a little more difficult. Jordin Sparks has three youtube offerings of previous National Anthems. We calculated the time it took for her to sing from the first note to the last, and all were very close to the 1 minute 42 second mark. Here's the breakdown:

This is the shortest of the performances, clocking in at 1 minute and 39 seconds. She was Arizona Idol at the time, not yet American Idol, so maybe fame has added 3 seconds to her wind pipes.

Being very generous towards the over, Jordin clocked in at exactly 1 minute and 42 seconds. If we were to time it exactly using a high tech device (aka a stopwatch), we think it would be slightly less.

This was only a partial video, so we combined it with her more long-winded anthem at the NBA Finals and came up with a total of, you guessed it, 1 minute and 42 seconds. Again, we made sure to go from first note to last and maybe even a bit further, just to be sure.

In all, we have three videos averaging 1 minute and 41 seconds, with none going over 1 minute and 42 seconds. This is enough for us to put a decent sized wager on Jordin Sparks going under at the Super Bowl.

Free NBA Picks

We have our first NBA free picks of the year today, using a computer system that takes in account every statistical category to find out who has the edge in any given match-up.

The computer likes the Philadelphia 76ers +7 over the Detroit Pistons, and we put one unit on that.

The computer also likes the Phoenix Suns -8 tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which is our play of the day and thus worthy of two units.

We are very picky with this system we've been developing over the course of the last three years, so picks will be few and far between, but no doubt profitable.

Again, that's Philadelphia +7 and the play of the day Phoenix -8. Good luck.
