BREAKING NEWS: Strahan to Retire From Giants

We don't typically break this type of news, but this is too big for us to pass up. A source close to both the New York Giants and Michael Strahan has informed us that the Giants defensive end will not return for another season in 2008.

While the official announcement is not expected for at least a couple of weeks, our source indicated that Strahan has already told the team that he will not be back. Per the source, Strahan telephoned head coach Tom Coughlin to inform him of his decision, but will wait to take it public.

This news comes on the same day that another legend, Packers quarterback Brett Favre, officially called it quits. Perhaps Strahan saw the emotional press conference Favre held earlier today and decided that he is ready to hang them up after knocking off the Patriots to earn his first career Super Bowl ring.

Maybe Favre is also the reason why Strahan will wait to break the news. Favre gift-wrapped a sack for Strahan back in 2002, allowing the Giants legend to break the record for sacks in a single season. Maybe Strahan is simply letting Favre enjoy his moment in the limelight.

The Giants have lost a few key players in free agency, and Strahan will be difficult for the defending champs to replace.
