2011 Super Bowl XLV (45) Prop Bet: Blake Griffin vs. the Green Bay Packers

Leading up to the 2011 Super Bowl XLV (45) between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, we'll be taking a look at Super Bowl proposition betting, or more specifically, the fun or funny Super Bowl 45 (XLV) prop bets that you hear so much about. That includes props on the Super Bowl coin toss, Super Bowl halftime show, Super Bowl National Anthem, Super Bowl postgame Gatorade Shower dump and much more. Follow along on the Super Bowl sidebar to the right!

Some of the more intriguing Super Bowl prop bets are always the cross sport bets, such as the one featuring the soon to be NBA Rookie of the Year.

Who Will Have More Points on Feb 6th 2011 Money
Blake Griffin (Clippers vs. Heat)
Packers Points

On paper, this bet appears to favor the Packers. The standard team prop has the Packers over/under at 24 points in the Super Bowl. Blake Griffin is averaging less than that, at 23.0 points per game. Naturally, you should take the Packers, right?

Not so fast. While Griffin is averaging 23 for the season, the rookie has been even hotter lately. Griffin scored 32 points for the second game in a row after averaging 26.0 per game throughout the month of January. So, for those of you looking to bet on the Packers over/under, you could potentially give yourself a couple points of wiggle room if you like the under by pitting the Packers against Blake Griffin.

Then again, in Griffin's first meeting against the Heat, of course, he had 24 points. Which puts us back to square one.

The bottom line: we still think the Packers outscore Blake. The Clippers/Heat game could either be a chance for Griffin to showcase himself once again on a national stage with a huge game, or a could be a huge blowout in which the rookie doesn't play as much as he usually does. We're expecting a high-scoring Super Bowl and are sticking with the team on the football field over the player on the basketball court.

2009 NBA Draft Prop Bets Go 5-2

Our 2009 NBA Draft Prop Bets were fairly successful, finishing with a record of 5-2. That record is terribly misleading though, since we're including the prop that Blake Griffin will play for the Clippers this year, which nets us $1.18 off a $100 bet.

Still, not a bad showing at the draft.

Our other props that won included betting Tyler Hansbrough to be selected before Chase Budinger, and another to go before Wayne Ellington, though both of those were won with significant chalk. We also correctly picked Hasheem Thabeet to be selected before James Harden, though again, there was plenty of juice on that one.

Our most profitable win was correctly predicting that Darren Collison would be selected in the first round (+105), and we didn't even have to sweat it out. The Hornets nabbed Collison with the 21st pick in the draft.

So, until next year, thanks for joining us for our 2009 NBA Draft coverage.

Want to Make $1.18 on an NBA Draft Prop?

We are always looking at new ways to make money, and any amount of money will do. However, we might by laying off this enticing proposition bet for the 2009 NBA Draft.

Courtesy of BetED:

Who will Blake Griffin play for?

Los Angeles Clippers -8500

Any other team +3500

Now, these bets are often in place just so that average bettors see the huge odds on "any other team" and decide, what the hell, I'll throw a couple of bucks on this. There is virtually no way Blake Griffin doesn't play for the Clippers in the upcoming season, and while it would be nice to win $3,500 on a $100 bet, it's not happening. The Oklahoma big man will go No. 1 and will play for the Clippers in 2009. In fact, you would be better served betting $100 on Griffin playing for the Clippers, collecting your free $1.18 cents, and buying a hamburger or pack of gum or something.

We'll look at 2009 NBA Draft prop bets a little closer tomorrow, so until then, you can budget for an extra $1.18 in your bank account.

Oh, and check out our mock draft located in the upper right hand corner of this page.

2009 NBA Mock Draft: Picks 1-2

Our pick-by-by 2009 NBA Lottery Mock Draft begins today with the first two picks in the draft. The Clippers have an obvious choice, while the Grizzlies isn't so easy.

We'll roll the picks out in pairs for the next week leading up the real NBA Draft on June 25.

1. Clippers: Blake Griffin, PF/C, Oklahoma

The Clippers won the Griffin sweepstakes thanks to a little bit of luck from the ping pong balls in May, and they'll be reaping the benefits in May (yeah, that's right, playoffs) for the next decade at least. Griffin is a can't miss prospect and is the real deal down low, so much so that not even the Clippers can screw this up. We can see him as a dominant big man in the league for a long time.

2. Grizzlies: Hasheem Thabeet, C, UConn

With Griffin off the board, the real draft begins. Big men are so hard to come by early in this guard heavey draft, and we think they'll be even harder to come by for the teams picking after Memphis. Thabeet is a talented kid and is NBA ready thanks to his college experience and incredible 7'3'' size. He's limited offensively but should be a wall defensively. The Grizzlies will be glad they passed on the many available point guards.

Two down, 12 to go as we mock the NBA Draft Lottery Picks. Check back tomorrow for picks three and four.

Don't Mock Us: 2009 NBA Mock Draft Central

With the 2009 NBA Draft set for June 25th, mock drafts are flying around similar to the frenzy surrounding the annual NFL Draft in April.

Also similar to the NFL Draft, we'll be conducting our first ever NBA Mock Draft in the days leading up to the big day.

In the NBA we'll cover the first fourteen picks as we mock the lottery teams, two at a time until draft day.

It's a pretty safe bet that Oklahoma's Blake Griffin will be the No. 1 pick selected by the Clippers, but beyond that is anyone's guess. In the coming days, you'll see our guesses.

Will Blake be the first player taken overall? Stay tuned for Stock Lemon's first annual NBA mock draft to find out.

Going Out With A Thunderous Bang

We closed out the NBA regular season yesterday with a Free NBA Pick, and as can happen on the last day of the year, it wasn't even close--in a good way.

The Thunder destroyed the Clippers in LA last night, 126-85, in a game in which the Clippers were actually favored by a point and a half. The Thunder improve our Free NBA Picks to 8-5 in 2009, which is a small sampling, but still 62% is 62%.

Of course, we will be all over the NBA playoffs, offering more Free NBA Picks, so make sure to check back soon!

The Final Free NBA Pick of the Regular Season

Our Free NBA Picks are 7-5 in 2009, for a modest 58% mark, and we have one more pick to close out the regular season.

In our last pick, we incorrectly bet against the might Thunder. Tonight, we're looking to make amends.

Thunder +1 1/2 over the Clippers

The last day of the NBA regular season is always a weird one for cappers. The best teams are benching their players while many other teams are playing in meaningless games. This qualifies as a meaningless game--but make no mistake about it, these teams want to end the year on a high note.

The young Thunder should be able to get it done tonight. Otherwise, we're done betting Thunder games for the rest of the season. What a bold statement!

Anyway, good luck, and be sure to follow us for more Free NBA Picks throughout the 2009 NBA Playoffs!

Always Trust Stephon Marbury

When Stephon Marbury tattooes his head with a potential Free NBA Pick, you'd be wise to heed the advice of his head.

That's what we did on Wednesday, resulting in a nice cover as the Celtics and Clippers went under 199 points in a surprising 93-91 Clippers win.

Our Free NBA Picks are now 6-3 (67%) in 2009, so stay with us as they hopefully catch fire down the stretch.

Stephon Marbury's Future Team is the Pick

While Stephon Marbury might not be a Celtic yet after finally fleeing the Knicks, it's only a matter of time.

So who better to turn to as we look for advice for tonight's Free NBA Picks?

The man who has his Starbury brand tattooed on one side of his head gave us a tip for tonight's game by inking the other side of his dome.

Starbury's Celtics/Clippers UNDER 199

Our Free NBA Picks are 5-3 (63%!) in 2009, and we hope to build on that record out on the West Coast tonight.

Good luck!

Play With Caution

We have another Free NBA Pick for you to fade today:

Rockets -4 over the Clippers

With Tracy McGrady back for the Rockets, and Chris Kaman still out for the Clip Show, this looks like a slump buster for us. Then again, probably not.

Good luck!

Free NBA Pick

Our Free NBA Picks are hitting nearly 64% and we look to improve on that again tonight with another pick.

Milwaukee Bucks -3 1/2 over the Los Angeles Clippers

Once again we are fading the dismal Clippers and we will continue to do so if it keeps putting money in our pockets, even if it means betting on a struggling team like the Bucks. The Bucks won the first meeting against Chris Kaman's Clippers on the road and they should fare even better at home, where they are a respectable 13-9 this season. Additionally, Michael Redd and Yi Jianlian are both back from injuries that have contributed to the team's recent struggles, so the full-strength Bucks should have a clear advantage tonight.

76ers Cover

Andre Iguodala and the 76ers dominated Corey Maggette and the Clippers by a count of 101-80 tonight, giving the Free NBA Picks another winner. Philly made a mockery of the 6 1/2 point spread, crushing the Clippers early and often in this one.

The Free NBA Picks are hitting over 63%, and, if you're new to the site, they are indeed absolutely free. For the low, low price of nothing, we will continue to provide winning NBA picks throughout the season, so keep checking back for more!

For you football fans out there, don't forget that the NFL season isn't over yet, especially not here at Stock Lemon. If you're looking to lei your money on some Hawaiin football action, we'll have a few suggestions to fulfill your Pro Bowl betting needs.

Stay tuned!

Two More Free NBA Picks

Our Free NBA Picks sre still hot, hitting 65% over the last 20 games, and our busy weekend continues with two more plays today.

Philadelphia 76ers -6 1/2 over the Los Angeles Clippers

Utah Jazz -11 over the Chicago Bulls

Samuel Dalembert and the Sixers have been playing better basketball lately and they are a good play as we continue to fade the Clippers.
As for the Jazz, Carlos Boozer and Co. should have no problem with the struggling Bulls. Good luck!

Three Free NBA Picks!

If you've been following our Free NBA Picks daily, you know that they've hit 12 of their last 17 for an astounishing 71%. You also know that we usually have one play per day, except for the rare instances when we have two. Today, however, we have a grand total of three Free NBA Picks! They are:
Los Angeles Lakers +1 1/2 over the Orlando Magic

Detroit Pistons -11 over the Portland Trail Blazers

and our play of the day...

Toronto Raptors -9 1/2 over the Los Angeles Clippers

As always, we put one unit on the regular plays and two units on our play of the day. To constitute as a play of the day, the computer must show a heavy advantage one way or the other, and our numbers show us that the Raptors should actually be favored by 14 1/2.

Chris Bosh and the Raptors should have a field day with the Clippers, who are in complete disarray at this point.

For our other picks, we feel pretty confident in Rasheed Wallace and the Pistons putting the up-and-coming Trail Blazers in their place tonight. Wallace spent a better part of his career in Portland, so there's extra motivation for anybody looking at some Rasheed Wallace prop bets.

Finally, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers should be the favorites in Orlando tonight. After losing a tough one to the Hawks the other night, Kobe and the Lake Show will get back on track at the expense of the Magic.

Good luck and enjoy the three play day!

Cavaliers Cover

Crazy game today, with line movement ranging from -7 to -12 in favor of the Cavs prior to the tip. In the end, though, Cleveland covered all of the lines with a 14-point victory over the Clippers. The win gets the Free NBA Picks back on track as they now boast a record of 9-4 in the last 13 for a respectable 69%.

Free NBA Pick

The Free NBA Picks have hit 8 of 12, and we have one small play for today.

Cleveland Cavaliers -8 1/2 over the Los Angeles Clippers

Good luck!

Friday, February 1, 2008

Two Free NBA Picks

The Free NBA Picks are 8-2 in the last ten, and tonight we have two of them.

New Orleans Hornets -2 over the Sacramento Kings

And our play of the day...

Los Angeles Clippers +7 over the Minnesota Timberwolves

We put two units on the play of the day, and one unit on any other computer picks. It's tempting to bet more since they're hitting 80%, but we'll stick to our guns. Good luck!

Saturday, January 26, 2008

Grizzlies Cover

It took them an extra five minutes, but the Grizzlies beat the Clippers by five in overtime, covering the three point spread.

Our Free NBA Picks are hitting 80% in the last two days at 4-1.

Small Free NBA Pick

The computer has a small lean on the Memphis Grizzlies at -2 1/2 over the Los Angeles Clippers today, worthy of a one unit play. We went 3-1 in the NBA yesterday and we're hoping the hot streak continues.
