Well, at least our Free NFL Picks are back on the winning track. After our first losing week, we turned in a 3-2 effort (just had to get greedy and add a loser last second).

And no, we still aren't ready to talk about our weekend in college football. So here are our NFL picks week-by-week breakdown.

Free NFL Picks Pick Up Steam

We had mixed results in week one of the NFL season, eventually finishing a record nine-game card with a losing 4-5 record.

The volume of picks will likely be reduced as we become even more selective with a usually picky Free NFL Picks system, so don't expect to have such a crazy Sunday every week.

After an 0-1 start on Thursay, our Free NFL Picks wound up 4-4 on Sunday for an unspectacular 4-5 week.

The Packers 21-15 win over the Bears on Sunday night salvaged our day with a -3 1/2 spread. Prior to the nightcap, the Vikings crushed the -4 1/2 spread and the Browns with a 34-20 win; the Cowboys covered a -6 spread in a 34-21 victory over the Buccaneeers; and the Broncos, who already had a +4 1/2 cover secured, went on to a miraculous 12-7 triumph over the Bengals.

In all, we had a good end to a shaky weekend, but we look forward to a winning week two.

Week One Free NFL Picks: Part One

We promised a huge Free NFL Pick lineup this week, so huge that we had to split it up into two parts. Well, no we didn't, but we will anyway.

Panthers +3 over the Eagles

Panthers/Eagles UNDER 43 1/2

Texans -4 1/2 over the Jets

Broncos +4 1/2 over the Bengals

Part Two is forthcoming. Stay tuned.

2009 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 17-20

We continue to work hard during the weekend, as for the second day in a row, we're revealing the next four picks in our 2009 NFL Mock Draft, rather than just three. So go ahead, check out the other installments of our mock draft on the upper right-hand side of our site, and then check out these next four picks.

In this edition, it's all about reaching, baby.

17. Jets: Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

The reaching begins with the Jets selection of Freeman. We don't think Freeman will be a bad quarterback in the league, but this pick is the definition of drafting for need. The Jets don't have a legitimate quarterback, and Freeman is available to fill that void. The Jets could make a move out of this pick to try and get one of the top two quarterbacks, but we think they'll end up sticking around and taking the player that falls to them (and would likely fall to them if they picked 15-20 spots from now).

18. Broncos: Brian Cushing, LB, USC

Let the reaching continue! Though some might say that us calling this pick a reach is reaching on our part. A lot of people really like Cushing for his leadership and consistent play, but we're not sure his skills will translate at the NFL level. The Broncos are banking on those skills translating as they look to re-tool their defense for the 3-4. Cushing is a relatively safe pick and probably will do alright in the NFL, but we don't see a whole lot of potential or upside (terms that draft experts love to use). Depending on how much the Broncos like him, they could look at Cushing with their earlier pick in the first round--which would definitely be a reach. Either way, except defense out of the Broncos with both the 12th and 18th picks in the draft.

19. Buccanneers: Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss

Jerry is a reach here in the draft because his position isn't all that great in this particular draft. There are about five legitimate defensive tackles available this year, and team's will be reaching for most of them. Jerry fits into the 4-3 front in Tampa, who need another inside man on the defensive side of the ball and have been said to be targeting Jerry. Jerry is a high effort guy, but he doesn't have the talent you might except from pick No. 19.

20. Lions: Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

Alright, this one actually isn't a reach. The only reason it might qualify as such is because it gives us back-to-back Ole Miss players selected in the draft, which is just plain crazy. Ole Miss isn't exactly known for producing NFL talent, but Oher definitely has what it takes to be a dominant left tackle in the league. The Lions will be lucky if he falls to them, as he's been mentioned as high as the top 10. If the Lions end up getting their quarterback (that one is a reach) and a left tackle for years to come, this could be a very good draft for the 0-16 club.

We hope you enjoyed all eight of this weekend's picks, and we hope you'll stay with us throughout the week as we put the finishing touches on our 2009 NFL Mock Draft.

2009 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 10-12

The mock madness continues today with picks 10-12. Be sure to check out the rest of the mock draft by clicking the links on the upper right hand side of this page.

And off we go...

10. 49ers: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri

The 49ers would have loved for one of the quarterbacks to fall to the tenth spot, but they'll settle for one of the top two quarterback targets in this draft. Maclin brings speed--and lots of it. He should give San Fran the offensive spark they've been looking for in the passing game, regardless of who they have throwing him the ball.

11. Bills: Everette Brown, DE, Florida State

The Bills need some help on the defensive line, and Brown is considered by most to be the second best end in the draft (and the best still available at this pick), and he's shooting fast up the draft board. Brown's quickness and versatility will make him a lot of money next weekend, and for good reason. He can probably play linebacker in a 3-4, but in Buffalo he'll stick to where he's most comfortable as an end in the 4-3.

12. Broncos: Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State

The men in charge in Denver would have loved to see Brown fall to them at 12, but Maybin is a heck of a consolation prize. Maybin came out of nowhere and had a huge season for the Nittany Lions when he finally got the playing time and opportunity to display his talent. Maybin is also a candidate for a linebacker role in the Broncos 3-4 defense. Some think the Broncos might be able to snatch up maybe at pick 18, but we don't think they'll take that chance.

Keep checking back for more of our first full mock draft. 20 picks to go!

Upset of the Century Covers

The Broncos knocked the Jets back down to Earth yesterday with a 34-17 win, covering the +8 spread in the process.

The win means that our Upset of the century covered, improving those picks 1-0 on the century. Come back in about November of 2108 for our next Upset of the century.

Unfortunately, our Lock of the year must have been unlocked, as it didn't cover, so our Free NFL Picks had a 1-1 day.

We won't have any more "locks" or picks that only come around once in a ridiculous while, but we enjoyed the increase in Google searches for "NFL locks" while we had them.

Stay tuned for more free picks throughout the week--and the century, for that matter.

Two NFL Locks of the Year!

Our number one goal here at Stock Lemon is to make you money. That's it. That's the main idea. We hope that our free picks can provide you with a little extra spending cash during some hard times.

Our second goal, though, is to increase traffic to this blog. The more readers we have, the better business is for us. That said, we thought we would deliver our Free NFL Picks to you this week like many other online sports betting websites--with false promises! Sadly, doing so will likely increase our traffic by about ten times. So, enjoy our two "locks" that are "100% guaranteed!"

NFL LOCK OF THE YEAR! BIGGEST PLAY OF THE SEASON! THROW ALL OF YOUR MONEY DOWN ON THIS PLAY!!!!! (BUT DON'T COME CRYING TO US IF IT LOSES)

Bills -6 1/2 over the 49ers

NFL UPSET OF THE CENTURY! NEVER BEFORE HAS THERE BEEN A CRAZIER LINE! THIS ONE IS WAY OFF! THOSE BOOKIES ARE GOING TO BE HURTING AFTER THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Small Lean on the Broncos Tonight

After a rough day with our Free NFL Picks yesterday, which are now down to 12-8-1 (60%), we're looking long and hard at tonight's game between the Broncos and Patriots.

Our system indicates that the Broncos have some potential at +3, but we'll have to factor in a few more statistics before pulling the trigger on this one.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE: We do not have any plays for tonight's game, so there will be no chasing a rough week for us.

Broncos Are Our Only Free NFL Pick Today

Usually we have at least three Free NFL Picks a Sunday, but this weekend our computer shows just one pick, and it's Jay Cutler and the Broncos.

Broncos -3 over Buccaneers

Denver is solid at home, which is why we like this as our only play today.

Good luck!

Favre Named Madden '94 Cover Athlete

Madden '94, a John Madden's football video game for Super Nintendo that allows users to play a full 16-game NFL schedule with all 28 teams, has announced its cover athlete.

Rather than choose a proven star like Super Bowl winning quarterback Troy Aikman of the Dallas Cowboys, Madden decided to name little-known Packers quarterback Brett Favre (pronounced fay-ver) as its cover boy.

Favre has played just one season with the Packers, throwing 18 touchdown passes and leading the team to a 9-7 record in 1992 after starter Don Majkowski went down with an injury. Prior to that, he played briefly with the Atlanta Falcons before being traded to Green Bay.

Critics say that Favre's career won't last long due to his poor throwing mechanics and a drinking habit that caused him to miss the team picture his rookie year in Atlanta. Perhaps the Madden game would have been better off with a more promising quarterback on its cover, like the young Tommy Maddox of the Denver Broncos.

Time will tell if the video game made the right choice. In the meantime, we only hope this cover won't jinx the young Favre in any way.
